More About Kira: In the kindie music world, Kira Willey breaks through with her unique, two-in-one albums that blend upbeat, danceable music with get-up-and-move yoga inspiration. In October 2011, this innovative singer-songwriter and founder of Fireflies Musical Yoga for Kids from Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, released her second CD, Kings & Queens of the Forest: Yoga Songs for Kids Vol. 2. The collection of 13 joyful folk/pop originals also features 13 bonus Yoga Tracks with Kira’s instructional voiceovers. Included in the album is a lyric booklet that guides parents with illustrations of Kira’s kid-friendly yoga routines.

Kira grew up in a musical family – her brother sings the bass vocal on the track “Let the Sun Shine In” – and her passion for music began when she started to play the violin at age five. Initially she composed “grown-up” tunes, but after teaching kids’ music and yoga classes, she realized children’s songs were her calling. In 2003 Kira became certified to teach yoga to children, and founded Fireflies Musical Yoga for Kids. Two years later, she released her first album, Dance for the Sun: Yoga Songs for Kids, which garnered many music-industry accolades, including the Independent Music Award for Best Children’s Album. In 2009, Dell featured her song “Colors” in a worldwide media campaign, which earned her fans around the globe.

Kira plays concerts, conducts workshops, and teaches her innovative musical yoga program at yoga studios, schools, and family-friendly venues all over the Northeast. Her new album, Kings & Queens of the Forest, which has won a Parents’ Choice Award and two Independent Music Awards, is available on iTunes, CDBaby.com, and her website, www.firefliesyoga.com.

“Sing, dance, and do yoga with the entire family with Kings & Queens of the Forest, joyful songs that kids age two to nine will love. Some of the songs (“Roller Coaster,” “Let the Sun Shine In”) will get you and your kids moving fast, while others (the soothing “Mama Nature” and the title track “Kings & Queens of the Forest”) will help kids grow calm. Willey’s instructions are as clear and lovely as her singing voice.” -Yoga Journal, September 2012

Rhythm of the Seasons Mini-Retreats

DSC_5955-final_small

What is the Rhythm of the Seasons Retreat?

Our seasonal mini retreats are designed for women of all ages & stages to reconnect with nature and live in harmony with the seasons.

We draw inspiration from Sara Avant Stover’s book, The Way of the Happy Woman: Living the Best Year of Your Life, which teaches us that “when we honor spring’s seedlings, summer’s vibrancy, fall’s harvest and winter’s quietude, we harmonize our inner and outer worlds.”

In each seasonal retreat we will…

  • Share a yoga and meditation practice inspired by the time of year
  • Enjoy a tasty, locally sourced seasonal lunch
  • Savor the season and re-connect with the natural rhythms of our bodies and minds
  • Journal to explore our own wisdom and how we are affected by the seasons, and
  • Find inspiration from all the amazing ladies at the retreats.

We meet the following Sundays from 10:30am-2:30pm.  Lunch will be provided :)

Jan. 6- Winter- Inner connection, turning the light within and quiet reflections

April 14- Spring- Blossoming & Growth & Creativity

June 23- Summer- Abundance & Vibrancy

Thai Massage Giveaway!

What is Thai Massage exactly?

It is an ancient form of massage that involves stretching and deep massage. This form of bodywork is usually performed on the floor, and the client wears comfortable clothes that allow for movement.  A Thai massage session typically includes rhythmic pressing and stretching of the entire body.  According to Buddhist spiritual practice, Thai massage cultivates “humility, awareness, and concentration in the healer designed to bring the practitioner to a deeper level of awareness of herself and the client.”  Read more.

Mommy Interview Series: Jen Lashua of Love & Tea Company

Catching up with Jen Lashua, Certified Herbalist, Artist and Mama to four little sweet beings AND founder of Love & Tea Company, the lovely handcrafted organic teas you can find @ lil omm (the only retail outlet in the DC area- YEAH!).  Her specialty teas are specifically formulated for Women & Children’s Wellness. A fusion of her two passions, Tea & Art, you will find Jen’s original paintings on her tea labels. Love & Tea Company promotes the Art of Tea; Engaging the mindful art of loose leaf tea while promoting artist’s creative works.

1. What’s your “story”?

I started Love & Tea company after the birth of my first daughter in 2006.  I saw there was a lack of wellness teas & products specifically formulated for Women and Children.  I wanted to create a business to support myself, and where I could have the flexibility to raise my children. Love & Tea Company is a fusion of my two passions; tea and art. I feel very blessed to be doing the work I truly love.

2. What inspires you?

I am constantly inspired by my children and nature.

3. What would you do with an ENTIRE Saturday afternoon to yourself?

WOW! I haven’t had an entire day to myself in many years!  I would get a massage then venture to a cafe read, then home to work on some of my paintings.

4. What is the best part of running your own business?

There are a couple things; One is flexibility. I’m able to tend to my children if needed, or take the day to play in the sunshine!

Another part of the business I love is, the immense joy that comes from making products and hearing how people appreciate them.

5. What is a typical day like for you?

…….It’s VERY busy :)

It’s a balancing act between taking care of my little ones and my business.

My day starts off and running when my 4 little ones rise. I first begin my day getting everyone settled into our morning routines, then I’m in the office to tend to business matters for a bit.

Mid morning- I’m back with my little ones preparing snacks and activities, then I’m off to the tea studio.

In the early afternoon- we all take some time for some creative fun; depending on the weather here in VT, often  we are found in the gardens, going for walks, painting, doing crafts or making some fun snacks in the kitchen all together.

Evening- dinner, books and bed time. Depending on my workload, I either go to bed when my children do, or I stay up into the wee hours of the night.

6. What’s something AWESOME you do with your kids?

My children and I visit an elderly women who is home bound. The smile on her face and joy heard in her voice when we visit is awesome!!! The children have grown fond of bringing her small gifts that they make on each visit.

Another thing we do is paint together. As an artist and mama, I’ve found that my time and energy reserves to paint is quite limited.

I decided to start incorporating more time for me to paint with my children.  It’s pretty awesome to paint with no expectations and see what creations we all come up with.

7. Any mentors/ teachers you’d like to give a shout out to?

I have so many teachers I would like to thank, but to start, I am eternally grateful to my first herb teacher (who is now passed on) Sage Blue, she showed me the healing powers and magic within the plants.

I also have two very special mentors; Erin Goodman & Hannah Marcotti. These women are incredible teachers of the beauty and balance of business and family life;

8. What (if any?) blogs do you read?

Some of my favorite blogs are:

http://www.cookusinterruptus.com/blog
