Me Time Yoga with Holly Clay-Smith Next held on Thu, Jan 29, 2015 at 5:30 pm - 6:45 pm
This enrollment runs from Thu Jan 8, 2015 - Fri Jan 30, 2015
“Finally it’s my time,” writes Washington Post journalist and author Abigail Trafford,…”a time to refresh, revive and re-imagine one’s life.” In mid-life, time for focus-on-me, once elusive, unfolds before you untilled and fertile.

Changes like retirement and children leaving the “nest” can be disorienting; in our culture, no rites-of-passage mark this intersection of the road taken and the one ahead. Me Time Yoga is for those of us at these cultivatable cross-roads. It’s for the me, who wants to make the journey ahead rich with meaning.

To unearth potential and nourish ideas, we’ll do yoga, play, dance and connect. Embodying our inner resources, we’ll find ourselves getting unstuck and loosening joints, mindsets and buried sources of inspiration. Engagement and interaction bring dreams and masked talents to the surface. Yoga, creative group expression, collaboration circles, and just plain fun are on the Me Time Yoga menu, a guide to a feast of possibility we prepare and enjoy together.

Me Time Yoga is designed to do just this. Structures we erected over the course of adulthood support and protect us, but they can also inhibit growth and cut us off from the world at large.

Meets Thursdays in January starting 1/8

Cost: $70

It is a wonderful complement to an active yang practice as well as an entry into meditation through focusing on the senses. Once you have experienced more openness and flexibility in the body, we will integrate sitting meditation and breath work to further balance the energy and conclude with several restorative postures to deepen your capacity to let go. Think about what happens when you wear shoes that are too tight - how your toes crunch up and your foot gets cramped and spastic. Our bodies react the same way when life scrunches them up for hours a day in front of a computer or when we feel cramped by our calendars and responsibilities. In this decompressing practice we will work tension out of the periphery of the body to create space for the spine. We will seek to gain knowledge (vidya) of our postural habits so that we may find release (moksha) from what is causing us to suffer.

Gita's Dream Kirtan leads kirtan experiences around VA and DC nearly every weekend bringing traditional chanting of Sanskrit mantras to these gatherings of sound and love. Gita has brought DC their very own Kirtan Fest the past 3 years, They have recently started touring around the midwest bringing kirtan to all. Acupuncture for Springtime Renewal with Jamie Wick Next held on Sun, Mar 22, 2015 at 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm
This enrollment runs from Sun Mar 22, 2015 - Sun Mar 22, 2015
In this workshop we will take some time to quiet the mind with some simple stretches, breathing techniques and with the use of acupuncture needles. By quieting the mind we will come to a place of stillness where we can prepare for the blossoming spring energy. We will explore the springtime and what it has to offer based on the physical manifestations in nature and in our own body and mind. Acupuncture will be done on the ear, which is an especially profound style of acupuncture due to its gentle yet powerful effect on the body and mind. More importantly, acupuncture in a group setting creates more powerful healing energy for the whole group. All are welcome to join.
