Shauna Simon, owner of Simon Says Yoga
Shauna, founder of Simon Says Yoga, discovered Yoga at age 17 in a search for self discovery and an experience apart from the norm. She lived in a Yoga community (ashram) for over 20 years, traveling to India several times and truly integrating the practice of yoga into her everyday life. She brought up her children, now adults, from birth with Yoga and Meditation as a building block in order to face the challenges of life with the tools to live an insightful, mindful and peaceful life.
Shauna's passion is building community and offering a yoga practice that is nurturing and uplifting. Her experience is diverse, with 20 years as a music teacher, and twice as many as an aspiring yogi, she loves to work with yogis of all ages, from little ones to seniors.
Finding a balance in life is Shauna's focus, between the worldly and spiritual, seriousness and fun, strength and softness. She looks to Martin Luther King Jr. as an inspiration with his words: "We must combine the toughness of the serpent with the softness of the dove, a tough mind and a tender heart."
Pleasance Silicki, owner of Lil Omm
Pleasance founded lil omm yoga in 2008 after burn out from her years as a teacher and administrator in the DC Public & Charter Schools. She is mama to Saylor & Milo, her children whom she adores! “Do what you LOVE and LOVE what you do” is Pleasance’s life mission and mantra. She believes yoga is TRULY for all shapes, sizes, colors, and ages. She is honored to have worked with many DC community organizations and non profits, led yoga & wellness retreats for college students, moms groups and organizations. Pleasance is a graduate of The Institute of Integrative Nutrition & a co-founder of the National Kids Yoga Conference. She is deeply inspired by her teachers; Max Strom, Erich Schiffman, The Mohans, Pema Chodron & Karen Maezen Miller.
Jen Campbell Munn, teacher
Jen Campbell Munn fell into yoga while pursuing a dancing career in NYC. Looking for another way to connect in with others (and her own heart), she began studying yoga in earnest in 1995. Since that time, she has studied many different styles including ashtanga, vinyasa and hatha. Jen spent 15 years as a full-time Pilates instructor as well, which informs her teaching to this day. Although she completed a yoga teacher training program in 1998, she didn’t begin teaching yoga until she completed her 200 hour training with Max Strom in 2010.
Jen feels very privileged to be a yoga teacher--to provide others with a sacred space within which they can explore the depths of their being to find greater kindness and clarity for their busy lives. When not teaching yoga, you can find her hanging with her family, hubby Jeff, children Lucas, 4, Caelan, 14 and Taylor, 16, or perhaps, knitting.

Frequently asked Questions:
I’ve never been on a yoga retreat before, what should I expect?
A yoga retreat is an amazing way to step out of your everyday life and focus in on what you’re seeking. Do you need a place to find more silence and hear what it is your heart is needing and longing for? Do you want to deepen your yoga practice and devote time (and muscle power) in a concentrated way? Are you looking to be exposed to new forms of meditation or practice? The beauty of a yoga retreat, is that even given a schedule of practice/events, there is contemplation time and space. You can even decide to add in some spa treatments if you like!
I’ve never been to one of your studios before. Will I feel welcome?
Both Simon Says Yoga and Lil Omm strive to create a warm and welcoming community. In fact, it is this feeling of community that has brought our studios together for this event. While much of the time will be spent in practice, there will also be opportunities to get to know your fellow retreat participants. A retreat is a wonderful way to grow deep and lasting friendships.
I’d like to bring my spouse. They haven’t tried yoga. Would this retreat be a good place for them to start?
In a word, yes! While there are some activities that are for the whole retreat group, such as meditation, we will also be splitting the group up according to levels for asana practice. Each group will feel supported and challenged at their level and pace.
I’d like to bring my family--including my children. What activities will be available to them?
The Chesapeake Bay Hyatt is a full-service, family-friendly resort. They have a large, indoor pool that even shows family-friendly movies in the evening. There are also kids camp and babysitting options available at an additional charge. For more information on these offerings, please click here.
If you’d like to participate with your family at the retreat, we are offering 2 potential options. We’d love to meet your family at the opening reception, please bring them along and let us know they’ll be joining us. The other option is a family yoga session on Saturday afternoon.
What should I bring to the retreat?
Great question! Upon arrival, you’ll receive a goody bag including a few yoga props that you’ll most likely need over the weekend. The only yoga prop we ask that you bring is a yoga mat--we’ll provide the rest. Otherwise, bring your yoga clothes, swim suit and any other items you need to be comfortable. Dressier clothes won’t be necessary, unless you intend on dining in one of the more formal restaurants on the property.
I’m a single and I’d really like to share a room. Can you help me with this?
We’d love to help you find a buddy to share a room. We’ll be forming a Facebook group, just for the retreat participants. This will be our forum to find buddies for rooms, and maybe also for a carpool out and back from the Hyatt. If you are not on FB, and need help, please do let us know here.
I’d really like to take advantage of the spa/outdoors/quiet time and skip a session. Is this an option?
Most certainly, this is an option. We want and encourage you to follow your intuition as you think about and plan your retreat. The fee for the retreat allows you to chose as many or as few sessions as you wish.
In addition, the Spa at the Hyatt is offering a 20% discount on all services to all retreat participants who are staying on site.
